Holly Beach is Coming Back!
I was in Holly Beach last weekend (May 7) grabbing footage and pictures for all the Googlers looking for updates on Holly Beach. I have a lot of pictures and video that I can’t wait to share..but I’ll have to because my computer isn’t cool! Soon enough, though, I’ll get a Mac and infrequent blog postings will be history!
Anyway, I prepared myself for Holly Beach to be really bad off but I didn’t prepare myself for what I’d see along the way in Pecan Island, Grand Chenier, Creole and a few others places. Coffins were out of the ground, several cars were abandoned, no house was left untouched — even the ones on 14 foot stilts.
But! People are already rebuilding! There was quite a bit of activity down in Cameron Parish and surprisingly enough, HOLLY BEACH! Gotta love Meaux’s Seafood — they are already back in business!

Your trusty tour guide at Meaux’s Seafood in Holly Beach
People are buying up property in Holly Beach but I hear that you have to buy a minimum of 4 lots at a time. Can anyone explain how that makes any sense? We checked the prices of one lot (where we stayed in May of 2005) and they were asking $10,000 a lot. Multiply that times a minimum of four and it’s just not worth it for us. That’s not even including a camp! If anyone wants to split, let me know
I have lots of video that I’ll be encoding and I’ll post it as soon as I deau!

YYYEEEESSSSSS!!!!!!We need to go for a day and get some Meaux’s Seafood to cook, on hte pit in the back of the truck.
I think it’s because the lots are very tiny. My family had a camp on the waterfront with 8 lots that ran in a rectangle. There are 2 lots back to back between streets, and they are probably around 50 ft. wide (Maybe). Our 8 lots would equal to about 2 normal city lots side by side.
hey i cant wait to see your photoes ..we went ride to holly beach last weekend may 20 2006 and was very upset myself.. the devastation is very hard to deal with but to see them coffins still sitting along the road side just tears me up !! yes there were people rebuilding, kids playingin the sand, and people riding the beach as always.. i know us cajuns never give up on a good thing.. i know HOLLY BEACH will be back..!! GOD BLESS EVERYONE AFFECTED BY THEM HURRICANES ! BECKY
holly beach is on its way back, we were there memorial weekend, quite a few people in tents and campers on the beach. we all have pictures and good memories before Rita now its time to make new and go on.
great to hear, yall! I heard some of my friends were going down there. Does anyone have pics? Btw, I’ve got galleries here with recent pics of Holly Beach. Video coming soon!
This is great news… God bless the sprit of Holly Beach… I prey everyday for the people of the “forgotten storm” Rita.. I have been to Holly Beach several times a year before Rita and was worried that I might not get to go there this year.. But after seeing these pics (which is more info than I have had on HB for the past 9 Months.. Thanks for sharing this with the rest of the world.. We will be on our way down there from Alexandria next weekend… God Bless Southwest Louisiana….
hi im pam i just wanted to tell you that i went to holly beach for 11 days. to clean our property. the place is starting to look a little bit better. but they are trying to stop the ones with 1,2,3, lots from going back.but not me and a few others did you see the cameron pilot news paper it shows what they want to do with holly beach look on page 4 and then read the aricle. they said 1,2,3, loter could not go back with out a sewage and one camper per 4 lots but i saw 2 campers on 4loys i saw an electrial pole with no sewage i saw 1 lot with electricity pole. i saw people parked on one property and pluged in to someone else but i cant get a pole its who you know and who you blow .pam
thank you pam. Keep watching and you will see more of the same. I know of a mobil home that will be ariving soon but will be on the ground not in the air as everyone else has to do. Im told that this person is deamed a “trailer park” but I know that this properity has had a house on it not a trailer. I dont mind seeing anyone get ahead and moving on but let everyone do as one. deam all of hollybeach a trailer park and if you choose to you can get a trailer. this would be a fare less loss than a hundred thousand dollar home that even if its in the air like they say it wont survive a storm like this one. as you say pam who you know.
yes, i know what you all are saying, we live in a camper for a long time. we work here, and we got some land in holly beach to live on. now the police jury sent us a letter, that we have to take out my AC. that we have in the shed that is keeping our food cool cause it gets so hot here, that it will go bad if i dont have one.we have our permit for the shed, why cant they just leave us alone, and let the people come home with out all the bullshit. ray miller with his fine house with 3 windoxs dose not want campers here. he wonts big money camps, who has that kind of money, us little people dont have a chance.
Hey all,
I appreciate your comments..it’s a terrible thing what is happening! I’ve submitted this information to a local reporter and hopefully it will get media coverage. Holly Beach needs to stay as it was before the hurricanes — a haven for everyone, not just the rich. There are so many beach commmunities in America that are upscale.. there’s no reason for Holly Beach to join their ranks.
Holly beach is still there. I have lived my entire life there and intend on keeping it that way. Do not sell what you have. If you have lots KEEP THEM! Keep them in your family. The rules that are made today may be changed tommorow. In order to keep the life that was down here before the storm you have to keep the good people that were here before the storm. I know several familys that have been here and raised their children here. Some have had to relocate without a choice because they only owned 2 lots that the house sits on. The only solution to this is a community sewage system. Meauxs seafood is a great example of the good people that have lived here and will continue too. Those that want to come here and change a way of life need to keep to their peice of land and not worry about the rest. I hope to be home and have a home by next summer. Holly Beach is still the great place it always was.
I am so glad to hear the wonderful people of Holly Beach are rebuilding. Its really to bad that things can’t just go back to the way they were. Change is not always agood thing! The government needs to keep their nose out of things! I think the state of the country speaks for itself.
My son spent three years working in Cameron and we loved visiting. We will be back in March for a visit.
P.S Sissy my son is Corey from Omega. He would love to contact you all. Drop a line at crabbersmate@yahoo.com
Hey Ya’ll,
I just was reading about our favorite vacation spot in the world. We went back and vacationed there in july or aug 06 …. the heck w/ rita… we boondocked in our rv (that we bought just because rita took all of our places to rent away). We had a super great time, we hung out with Mr.Willie. Mr. Meaux and his wife taught us how to shell crabs that we caught over in the bayoo. I have pictures, but I am not too computer smart… I think I can email them to ya if you want them to add to your info here.

I am from Texas and used to visit Holly Beach nearly every summer. I was devistated to see it after the hurricane. I would love to own a lot there for when my husband and I retire in a few years but I don’t want to get ripped off. Any ideas???

I’m trying to reach Mildred “Sissy” Meaux. Her dad, Clarence was a jockey at Fairmount Park in Collinsville, IL. Sissy moved to Texas in the late 70’s to early 80’s. I don’t know if you are a relation or not. Please write to my e-mail ONLY at zz57scorpi@juno.com
thanks,
Scott
Hey! This is Julie and I am from Rayne. We always went to Holly Beach as often as possible< But since the hurricane we have been once and it was so said. I dont look nothing like it did and never will. But on the talk about the camps they should leave property owners along and let the buid the way they want it They lost everything they owned and that was some of the peoples homes not a camp. I think they should do what they want. They never had a problem with the cabins before and I now that alot of them need repares. They didnt have any rules or guild lines then why now!
BY THE WAY WE R PLANNING ON GOING THE WEEKENDOF fRIDAY 13,14,15, BUT SOME ONE SAID THE WATER IS SEILL CONTAMINATED. cAN ANY ONE COMFER THAT FOR ME THEY WANT TO SWIM AND CRAB??? iS THE MIQUITOES BAD ALSO OR NOT SOMEONE PLS. LET ME KNOW BEFORE WE GO
