More Incredible Pictures of Holly Beach

To this day, quite a few people find this blog while looking for pictures of Holly Beach after Rita. I’m glad there’s still interest as I’ve got a lot more to post. First, we’ll start with pictures sent by my mom’s friend, Ms. Toni. Each of them revolved around my favorite place, T&T’s. In the email, she writes

We went to Holly Beach yesterday (11-05-05) and I took a few pictures of Holly Beach and where T & T’s was. You can look at all the pictures they had on TV or the newspaper but until you see this with your own eyes you can not image what it is like. And the smell……..Just terrible. It is unbelievable, all of Cameron looks like a war zone. We rode the back way from Kaplan all the way to Johnson Bayou and back. All the marsh grass is piled up on the side of the roads. I have never seen so many washers, dryers, iceboxes and freezers……..all on the side of the road, damaged.

Click on the link above to see all 3 pictures of T&T’s after Holly Beach.

Next, I’ve got an awesome PowerPoint slideshow (2MB) that showcases the damage of quite a few cities after Rita. Cities shown include Big Lake, Cameron, Holly Beach, Johnson Bayou, Grand Chenier, Carylyss, Hackberry, Abbeville, Galveston, Port Arthur and Lake Charles.

I’ve also got a slideshow with pictures taken by Russell Samanie at Point-Aux-Chein. And even more pictures from Mr. Ferral Manual at his camp in Holly Beach.
And finally, Monica Beth sent us the link to an incredible collection of pictures from around Pecan Island, Forked Island and Cow Island.

Thanks to everyone who shared their pictures. If you’ve got more, feel free to send them and I will continue to post. Also, if anyone has any information on the rebuilding of Holly Beach, we’d love to hear from you as well.

I have a few pictures of Vinton, La. Lots of people forget we do exist. They think Sulphur is the last town before the Texas border. Let me know if you want to see some.

My in-laws would always spend a week in Holly Beach each summer, and my wife and I would go there and visit them at their site. I had heard that the beach got hammered during the storm. Thanks for the pictures.

Thanks so much for putting these pictures together. I am from the other end of the state (Assumption Parish), and we were truly lucky to have fared so well this storm season. I thought I would share with you these words I wrote yesterday to a friend in New Orleans (I hope you find them uplifting):”…if I had to put my money and my faith in ANY people ANYWHERE in the world, it would be on the good folk of south Louisiana. Among 10 million other things we south Louisianians managed to do all on our own for the last 300 years, if we can stick a chicken inside a duck inside a turkey, give it a fancy name and convince others to BUY it, and if we can take Lord knows how many rhythms and beats and sounds and create the jazz that became the root of ALL American-created music, then sheeeeeeeet…..there ain’t NOTHING we cannot do. It took 30 years after being forcibly removed from Novia Scotia and scattered to the winds by the British for the Acadians to make their way in droves to south Louisiana and avoid a total diaspora. A diaspora didn’t happen then. Ain’t gonna happen now. Be we black or white, Cajun or non-Cajun — we are ALL south Louisianians. And we all know that still means a helluva lot to us. And to the crawfish that throw themselves in our nets and whose ancestors followed us here all the way from Novia Scotia all them years ago. ;) They can call us anything they want but do not call us victims. We are survivors and have always acted the part. We will continue to, even now. Since we have been paying federal taxes for a damn century, we just need to be reimbursed some of that money for our levees & coastal restoration (preferably via keeping our own Fair Share 50% from here on out of our oil/gas tax revenue instead of having it continue to be stolen by the federal government)…and we won’t let the door hit us in the ass. Just look at the newly re-opened Twin Span! Ahead of schedule, under budget and an amazement to the engineering and transportation industries. THAT, my friend, is what we LOUISIANIANS do….if the feds would just get the hell out of our way in other places, too.”

The west pillars on the west picture is my aunt’s house, not camp, their house!

This is such a sad thing that has happened to the entire Gulf coast. I have been Working here around Gulfport, MS since the end of December. You couldn’t imagine the ammount of destruction. Bay St. Louis is probably the worst i have seen so far.
