Holly Beach Aftermath

I saw a few people found this blog while searching for information about Holly Beach after Rita.

Sorry to report folks, Holly Beach is only foundations and sticks. T&T’s is gone. The Daquari Shop is gone. Every single thing. Here’s a before picture.

Here is an after picture, courtsey of the Associated Press.

Both the New York Times and the Los Angeles Times have our favorite beach on the cover.

The second I saw Rita was heading for Sabine, I got out my necklace made with a Holly Beach shell and some crab string I got at T&T’s. I also got one of those white shell necklaces and put that on too. It’s some sort of comfort — I just wish I could be there to help.

But Holly Beach will return! A few nice visitors to the blog commented that their family will rebuild as soon as its allowed. Hell, I may even buy some property there and cart in a poodoo trailor. I just hope T&T’s gift shop comes back too.

Also, you can now download zips of pictures from KATC.com

Man, sure does break my heart to see pictures like that. Never had the privelige of going there, but having spent 27+ summers of my life in a place called Surfside Beach S.C., I can sympathize with the losses. Ours wasnt as severe, but Hugo chewed us a new one back in 89, and I remember how we all felt then. Hopefully when I bring my children to see their uncle (and all their other relatives) in Baton Rouge, we’ll be able to go out there one day.

A terrible thing to happen to such a beautiful and joyous place. My husband and I have many many good memories of Holly Beach - “The Cajun Riveria”- . It will be rebuilt one day and we shall return.

Being born and raised in Kaplan, I am full-bleed cajun, Holly Beach has always been a place of peace and calm for me and my friends. I cried then and I cry now just thinking about what Rita did. I remember my great granma telling me about hurricane audrey in ‘57 and I never thought that I would live to see Holly Beach destroyed. I will be lost without it.Chad L> Broussard
