Attention Cajun Bloggers:
Pure Cajuns, Half Cajuns, Mostly Cajuns .. I made a blogger button just for us. You are welcomed to use it if you are a collector of buttons.

For the record, I talked to Cajun historian Shane Bernard and, after referring to one of my friends as ‘half Cajun’ he informed me that there’s no such thing as Half Cajun because, by default, the Cajuns are a mixed bunch anyway.
I don’t think there’s anything as "pure Cajun" or "half Cajuns" because Cajuns by their very nature are a mixture of ethnic groups. So, when you look at some of our most legendary Cajun musicians, they had decidedly non-Acadian surnames: Lawrence Walker (Anglo), Dennis McGee (Scotch-Irish), Nathan Abshire (German), and so on, and so on.
Interesting… MostlyCajun, how ’bout that?

As another “displaced Cajun” (I live in AR) I agree with much of what you have to say…..though “mostlycajun” makes sense also (have to go along, he’s my uncle and godfather). On another note, I spent the majority of my time from Aug ‘01 to April ‘03 in Southern California and have great sympathy for you missing “real” food and “real” people
wait, how do i get the dang button to work. i’m sort of clueless with this stuff.
Probably wrong site to bring this up, but how about nicknames? My nickname was “jay” probably for my initials. But my dad named Kerney was “cos” he never knew why.How about this for uncles of which I knew very few by their real names:parain Bay, nonc Dead, nonc Did, nonc Do, ta-tit, pfyiad, tee Rouge, gran blanco, nonc Gin(Malcolm),nonc philo (Albert), nonc Am (Emery), nonc Killis (Gerald), nonc Monte(alfred), nonc tunaire(robert)Women were:taunt shaun, balya, melest(margaret) and finally: basin de tripes(really)I’ll bet John Benoit can add to this list.
I was raised in South Louisiana, my heritage is Spanish, French, Italian, British Isle.
I think we need more cajun websites to allow the youngsters to read and learn more about their heritage. I think the jokes are a good past time to read and bring a laugh to a busy day. I have lived in lower Louisiana and been in the seafood industry since I was a little boy. I have a French, Canadian back ground and my family speeks mostly French. We recently did a cajun poll that said ” You are a cajun if you ” and we are defintely a cajun.
i’ve just happened upon your site. Awesome stuff. My family is from the New Iberia area of Louisiana. I’m currently living in Fullerton- so it’s great to see a cajun living it up in LA
Now, if I could just find some good cast iron cookware that doesn’t cost me hundreds of dollars…
I used your Cajun icon on my food blog, I linked it to your site from mine. I hope you will come see.
