My old house from above
I found a color aerial photo of my old house in Kaplan. I used to live in a lil part of town called "Coastal Heights" — it was about 1/2 mile outside of town but Mom still said that Main Street was too far for joy rides
You can click on the thumb below for a larger picture of Coastal Heights in Kaplan or you can find your own house at the MapLouisiana website.
P.S. Maw-Maw will be writing more in a lil while. She’s currently working on two big projects for the RealCajunRecipes website so it’s going to take some time. Meanwhile, you’ve got me

Do you know Dale D’Marcy Touchet?
hey ginnie, sorry, i don’t know Dale D’Marcy Touchet. Is he related at all to the former marilyn d’marcy?
You lived in high cotton! Coastal Heights was the first exclusive subdivision built in kaplan and I believe the original builder was Dalton Hebert a renown carpentar at the time. I lived at 712 w. 5th st, next to Dr. Villmez, he built the first hospital in Kaplan back in the 50’s.I was located a few blocks from hwy 14 I believe it was on 9th st.
haha yeah, I was told that I lived in the “rich part of town” by school kids but I never really bought it. I always thought that little area where the Deshotels live on Church street was a lot nicer.I’m so excited that you visited my blog! I love Kaplan but from talking to people, I hear its a dying town and Wal-Mart & Garan moving to Mexico has a lot to do with it. It makes me so sad
Church street did have some nice homes, Dr. Latour, Mr. meaux from the lumber yard (rayette’s dad) and the old dentist (forgot his name)But the Deshotels Jules(the Judge), his son Henry, the Reaux’s(herscel’s dad), Dr. Joe Kite, Starling Simon, Dr. Vilmez(ginger’s dad), Buzz Romero (the young doctor), Mrs Sledge, Ex-principal Ted Simon all lived on Wilson ave. in very nice homes.Yes, it’s a dying town, the rice mills are about gone, Noah’s dept stores closed, garan left, the hospital is on it’s last leg. But one thing stays the same, none of the downtown bars have closed! Some things NEVER change! (lol)
Who is looking for Dale DeMarcy? I’m Dale DeMarcy Touchet
